our des moines is a town south of seattle, near the airport and on the water. elkay and i went for a drive and she took me to the marina, one of her favorite places since childhood. it being december in seattle and past 5:00, the sun was already setting. the marina turns out to be a huge hangout for people who like to fish (seemingly who like to fish more than they like to catch; we didn't see anyone actually catch anything). the light was beautiful, especially the contrast between the blue of evening and the yellow of the streetlights.
