ubik, philip k. dick i somehow never read any philip k. dick until recently. so far i've read do androids dream of electric sheep (bladerunnder) and this. i'd like to read his other books that have become movies and whatever else i can find. this one, however, wasn't all that. in the future, some people have evolved psionic powers (especially telepathy and precognition). they primarily use these powers to spy on other people, steal industrial secrets, and find out who in the office is stealing the pens. other people have evolved psi-cancelling powers, and agencies of psis and anti-psis are in a constant battle on behalf of clients. kind of interesting, nothing especially gripping. anyway, something very bad happens to a group of anti-psis and they begin to regress backwards in time. were they set up by a woman with a strange new power? ambushed by psi agents? where the hell are they? as often happens, the setup and the enfolding of possibilities is far more interesting than the way it's actually resolved. there are worse ways to kill a few hours. Update: i forgot, i've read this one too. it was pretty good. September 24, 2002 01:05 AMCategories: books TrackBack |
